Patrol 6, 10.00am - 12.30pm
Any queries re patrols should be directed to David Fleeting, Manager
Lifesaving or your patrol captain.
Remember
the same rules apply as last season. Miss too many patrols and you
are out; arrange substitutes or let your patrol captain know if you
can't make it; the usual common courtesy.
There have been a number of members missing patrols without notification. You will get a nasty, unexpected New Year present unless you lift your game.
Education
1.
Proficiencies
The following information refers to Bronze Medallion and ARC proficiency only.
Information regarding proficiencies for SRF, Spinal Management, the Defib and Gold Medallion will follow.
Last date for proficiency tests is this coming Sunday unless you have made special
arrangements.
The
date and time is:
Sunday 9 December 9am & 11am
Proficiencies
will begin at the times written, any late comers will have to wait
until the next time/date so please arrive 15mins early.
Signals
and CPR will take place in the surf club before moving to the beach
for the swim (200m run / 200m swim / 200m run in under 8min) and the
board/tube rescue. The proficiency should take an hour to complete.
Anyone
needing their ARC proficiency...these will take place in the surf
club immediately after the 11am group has completed their water section.
So, ARC holders, please choose your date accordingly.
These
dates and times will be the only ones from Bronte this year. If you
can not make these times, forget to turn up, believe the water to
be too cold...then you are allowed to complete your proficiency at
another beach but under your own reconnaissance.

Competition
We were all pleased for Milly McGuiness when she was selected in the Sydney Branch team to compete at the Inter Branch Championships in mid November. Well it only gets better.
Milly competed with distinction and achieved some outstanding results as shown below.
* Ironwomen 4th
* Surf Race 6th
* Board race 10th.
We better be careful otherwise Milly will be getting the talent scouts from a Queensland club chasing her. Well done Milly on these great results against some very stiff competition.
Young John McCarthy is also killing them in his events. John won the Open Iron Man at Cronulla a couple of weeks back. John who can compete in the U/19 events can achieve big things this season with a bit of luck which is always needed in the surf.
Also dates and venues for this season’s board/ski/craft scrutineering (both seniors and juniors) are as follows:
15/12 - Nth Cronulla Open Carnival 8am to 11am
19/01 - Wanda Inter Cities 8am to 11am
02/02 - Coogee Open 8am to 11am
16/02 - Sth Maroubra Branch Age 7.30 to 10.30
17/02 - Sth Maroubra Branch Open 7.30 to 10.30
Bondi
To Bronte
What a great day and what a great success. Over 1650 swimmers (not quite the 1800
reported) in a good small surf in great sunshine. The event was again won by Josh
Santacaterina in a time of 24.27.
Alistair Visch led the Bronte charge finishing in equal 20th in a time of 26.32. Other Bronte swimmers who excelled were Peter Appleyard, Sam Fleeting, Reed Cotterill, and Milly McGuiness who all swam the course in well under 29 minutes.
Thanks to all who assisted – it was a great members’ contribution from the water safety to the bbq and first aid. There are too many people to mention for their work and if I inadvertently forget someone I get into trouble. So please accept this as a big thanks to all.The money raised will go towards equipment, Australian & World Titles expenses, and general Club House renovations.
Nipper
News
• Designs for the Nippers Uniform Competition are due in by this Sunday 9th Dec to Peta at the Gear Tent.
• Club championships – round 1, this Sunday 9th December.
• We are doing the group photos this Sunday so can all nippers ensure they have correct outfits, eg. bronte swimmers, bronte rashies and caps. The photos will be taken on the ramp outside the club after the session has finished so please don't rush off.
• There are approximately 800 Nipper parents in the club and, as mentioned in the newsletter, we are asking for 3-4 parents to volunteer on the social committee to help organise a couple of
events. To date we have had 1 response (thank you Leonie). I know everyone thinks that
someone else will do it all but this is not the case. If you can help please email Leanne Bartlett
at brontenippers@hotmail.com.
• Xmas Special - Nipper Boards RRP $169.00. Special Price $130.00. See Peta or
Roley.
Club News
• Club stalwart and long service member Bob Bray isn’t traveling all that well at the moment. Bob had a major operation on his back several weeks ago to hopefully repair some of the
damage inflicted over many years. Bob’s main problem with his back started with car
accidents, boat rowing accidents, and of course hauling in all those fish he keeps telling you
he catches. The long and short of it is he is in severe pain and needs some TLC. Wife Diane
can only tender so much assistance and sympathy so all you mates of Bob out there, get up
to his place and give him a cheer up. Yes you will have to listen to fishing stories but we all
have to sacrifice something for a mate. Get well soon Bob!
• Crook backs must be catching. Aunty Pat, (Pat Jenkinson/Stewart) is also suffering at the moment. As you can imagine Jim’s a big help. Get well soon Pat, we need some more roast
pork and beef this Sunday for the FC Norton boat christening.
• Don’t forget this Sunday, 9th December at 3pm for the surf boat christening with the famous
name of Frank Norton to adorn its bows.
• The Club’s Manager Administration David Stone is undertaking a charity row over a distance
of 42.195Km (Marathon), on a rowing machine, with a difference – he is rowing at maximum
resistance 10 – like 10th gear, the whole time. His primary aim is to finish but he is also
seeking to get into the top 5 verified results in the world for the concept 2 rowing machine.
This madness will take place on the 16th December at 3:00pm on the steps of the surf club
and is in aid of Sydney Children’s Hospital. If anyone would like to pledge a donation,
however small, it will be gratefully received - just drop David an email at the following
(private1@bigpond.com). David expects to finish at about 6:15/630 – in time for a cleansing ale and then a fall over. Let’s get behind Dave for this gesture and support him with
donations etc. Also it would be good to stand in front of him during his row with a cool beer –
sort of an incentive.
• An aerial photograph to be taken of all the surf lifesavers on one beach – SOUTH
MAROUBRA on 8TH DECEMBER 2007 at 9.30AM
• Dr Bronte held their Christmas party at the Club last Tuesday. They had a great time. What a tonic!
That’s it for now. Sorry if I have missed anything.
