Bronte Life Saving Energy Record
With installation of solar power the Club has contributed to the environment with the following contributions:
Kg of CO2 saved 1104kg
Energy Total 1.047 MWhr

Welcome back to everyone in a new year which we hope will be bigger and better than 2007. School goes back next week and all things considered it’s been pretty quiet down here at the Club – lots of members went north and south for holidays which has resulted in the Club being very quiet. The weather hasn’t helped and if you went to sunny Queensland you would have got very wet but never mind.

Patrols
Don’t forget the Australia Day long weekend holiday next Monday where patrols are rostered.

This coming weekend's patrols are:

Saturday 26 January
Patrol 3, 9.00am - 1.30pm
Patrol 7, 1.30pm - 6.00pm

Sunday 27 January
Patrol 10, 8.00am - 11.30am
Patrol 14, 11.15am - 2.45pm
Patrol 18, 2.30pm - 6.00pm

Monday 28 January
Patrol 9, 8.00am - 11.30am
Patrol 13, 11.15am - 2.45pm
Patrol 17, 2.30pm - 6.00pm

Cadet Patrols Sunday 27 January
Patrol 1, 8.00am - 10.30am
Patrol 2, 9.00am - 11.30am
Patrol 3, 10.00am - 12.30pm

Any queries re patrols should be directed to David Fleeting, Manager Lifesaving or your patrol captain.

Remember the same rules apply as last season. Miss too many patrols and you are out; arrange substitutes or let your patrol captain know if you can’t make it; the usual common courtesy.

There have been a number of members missing patrols without notification. You will get a nasty, unexpected New Year present unless you lift your game.

Education
All proficiencies are finished for the season unless by special arrangement.

Club Shop - Web Site
All is rectified re on-line ordering. Sales re gear, fees etc are now available on the Club's shop via the web site. Go to our website and follow the prompts under Club Shop.

Club Ball
Don’t forget the ball coming up in May. It will be a function to remember. The Deltones 50th year, great food and entertainment will be just some of the highlights. Organize your table of ten now. See Jim & Pat.

Club Access
Despite some criticisms, the lock down of the back storage area is proving successful. The caretaker is now smiling for the first time in months.
Apart from the decrease in vandalism to Club and kiosk gear, non members are now not storing their gear in the Club and nipper gear is not being used and left strewn across the beach.

Members should be aware that the Board has agreed to reintroduce board lockers, but in an area as yet to be determined, but most likely in the front section of the Club between the main roller shutter and the gym.

Building/Renovations Update
We are in the process of cleaning up the Club. Members are aware we are evolving a plan for the re-organization of the ground floor. The revised plan will be on exhibit at the Club for members’ to scrutinize and provide comment. All work is to be conducted during the off season.

We will be starting some essential work with regard to access. The beach side roller door is being replaced this week and will have a swing door adjacent to it. The roller door into the Nippers room is also being replaced this week. We are isolating the back area to enable it to be reorganized, surplus and junk gear removed and the roller door replaced with swing doors early in the new year.

The back area is being quarantined for safety and security reasons while this work occurs and access will be via key. Those senior members identified as having board lockers will be given keys so they may access the area – junior, cadet and nipper members must stay out.

Please remove all gear now as access will be restricted from close of business Sunday. A new lock will be fitted Monday.

Competition
Equipment Scrutineering -
We have been advised by Branch that due to the ill health of Mr Bill Singleton, the last opportunity that clubs will have to get their craft scrutineered will be at the Coogee Carnival to be held on Saturday 2nd February 2008 in the boat shed at Coogee Beach (from 8:00 am).

Bill will no longer be doing the role of scrutineer until such time as he gets the ok from the doctors. Therefore if you want to compete at the State and Australian titles, get your craft looked at asap.

Board Riding -
SLSS held the annual surfing competition on Saturday 15th December 2007 at Maroubra beach. The competition was held to encourage youth of Surf Life
Saving Clubs to compete for their Clubs, develop board riding skills which are an integral part of lifesaving and rescues in the surf, and make new friendships amongst like-minded youth. There was a huge turnout on the day with members representing Bronte SLSC, Maroubra SLSC, South Maroubra SLSC, Cronulla SLSC, North Cronulla SLSC, Wanda SLSC and North Steyne SLSC.

Members competed not only for prizes provided by Quiksilver, but also the chance to have their Club win the annual shield. Bronte SLSC turned up in force and managed to successfully defend their title and won the perpetual trophy.  Congratulations should be extended to George Fatseas Branch Youth Development Manager for organising this event - well done to all who competed.

Open Carnivals -
The intercities carnival at Wanda last Saturday and the Queenscliff carnival produced some outstanding results for the Club.

The U/19 R&R team with Amy & Stephanie Teagle, Emma Ryan, Eliza O’Grady & Caitlin Neisson took 2nd place while our open womens team (Danielle Carter, Simone McDermid, Alana Wilson, Gemma Ainsworth & Stephanie O’Grady) got 3rd.

Julia Tyrrell won the u/19 ski and got 2nd in the u/19 board.

John McCarthy followed up his win in the u/19 ski at Queenscliff with a 3rd in the u/19 board at Wanda and a 2nd in the open board. John also led the open ironman in the 2nd leg and finally finished a very creditable 4th.

Ashleigh Bond came 2nd in the open women’s surf at Queenscliff and is in form coming up to the majors.

Siobhan McCarthy won the 2km beach run at Wanda.

Upcoming Carnivals -
26th January – Freshwater
27th January – Manly
2nd February - Coogee
16th February – Sydney Branch, Maroubra
1st & 2nd March – Nipper State Swansea Belmont
6th March – State Masters Swansea Belmont

Please note: the Sydney Branch Masters will be held at Coogee.

Club News
• Some fantasticly good news. Most people will be aware that Peter Miller suffered a massive heart attack prior to Christmas and the future didn’t look too good. The great news is that Peter has recovered and is sitting up in hospital and about to start physiotherapy. Peter is in the Prince of Wales and receiving visitors. Get well soon Pete and we’ll see you back at Bronte in no time.
• The sad news is, as reported to members a few days ago, that Dave Ellison passed away after a very short illness. Dave’s funeral is this Wednesday at Mary Immaculate Charing Cross at 10.30am. Thank you to all members (too many to mention) who have written expressing their sadness and extending their sympathies to the Ellison clan.
• Nippers are back in action after a short break. The weather and seas haven’t been kind so there hasn’t been much happening. Good weather and surf will see them all “swarming” again by this weekend. Nipper Club Championships and carnivals are coming up quickly.
• Some new gear will be coming in soon to the Club. Club polo shirts will be on sale by the end of this month. A small order is being placed to gauge interest. My bet is they won’t last long.

Remember to try and smile. It’s never as bad as you think. That’s all for now.
