Club Shop - Web Site
New gear has arrived including polo shirts which look very smart as well as some T-Shirts with Club logo and “Bronte – Where God Surfs” on the back. They look good and are attractively priced. See Roley, Peta or even me at the office.

Also the latest in race gear – Men’s skins/race shorts (okanooeys) - special price $70 (normal retail price up the Junction is $120).

Club Ball - CANCELLED
Due to a lack of support the Club Ball at the AJC has been cancelled. All budgeting was undertaken with a minimum of 700 people to make it a success. Because we couldn’t get the numbers we are down the tubes by several thousand dollars. Those who have paid will get there money back.

However the good news is that the ball will be replaced by a function at the Club BUT limited to 200 people. This function will be operated on a cost basis but with the intention of re-couping our commitments for the ball via raffles etc. It will be a food and drink inclusive affair with a band – should be a good turn. Cost will be $75 per head. Details will be emailed shortly.

Competition
Well we only have the Aussies to report on. Only a small contingent went west with mixed results. I don't have a detailed report on how we went except to say in the Masters Ted Clifford got amongst the medals in Ironman and Ski whilst Gayle Dundas really cleaned up with 3 Gold and 1 Silver. Harries also got a medal or two.

In the Open Anthony “Harries” Carroll got gold & silver medals in the open board riding and Malibu.

That’s all the results I have but will put in a complete list when they come to hand.

Board Lockers
The Board of management has endorsed the recommendation by the sub-committee regarding the installation of board racks in the men’s change room. There will be sufficient space for approximately 28 boards. Designs for the racks are currently being investigated.

World Championships
The Club will be represented at the next SLS World Championships in Germany in July. Fund raising will be run by the members going.

The first fundraiser for the team is a 200 Club. Tickets are $25 each and there will be 5 prizes made up of 2 x $250 draws on Sunday the 4th, 11th & 18th May at the Club and the major prize $1,000 drawn on Friday 24th May at the Club 's Annual Presentation at the Club.

Club News

  • Don’t forget the Veteran’s Day re-union on Sunday 27th April. It commences at 12.00 midday till about 4.30pm. Cost will be $40 and includes your drink and food. After Anzac Day it should be a good affair.
  • John Forrester and a friend started a charity called “Comedy for Kids” where they raise funds for the emergency department of the Sydney Children’s Hospital. Tickets cost $60 each. Details available at john@comedyforkids.com.au
  • Rebel Sports Bondi Junction Special discount day/night is scheduled for Thursday 24th April. Members just have to show a membership card or say they are from Bronte Surf Club or quote our number 26989. Members will receive a 15% discount. Great time to buy new footy boots etc.
  • Greg Clifford had an unpleasant experience a week or so back. Called into the petrol station to fill up and the bloke next to him collapsed. Greg had to work on him with CPR whilst other patrons stepped over him to get their fuel. Greg had to call 000 and get them to send an ambulance. Poor bloke died – they reckon he was dead before he hit the ground; however the interesting thing is that Greg said whilst it was unpleasant and upsetting, his training all came back and he did all he could. Well done Greg. He didn’t even get a free tank of petrol.
  • Bill Singleton was well enough to get to the Aussies to be presented with his Life Membership of SLS Australia. I’m told it was a moving ceremony and Bill looked great. Good on you Bill.
  • Two resignations– David Stone has resigned from the Board of Management. Dave has done a great job over the past few seasons and his experience and commitment will be sorely missed. Fortunately he will still be on the beach and training squads – you can’t beat that experience.
  • Bill Widerberg has resigned from the Governance Group sub committee that is appointed each year. Fortunately we still have the services of Jon Donohoe and Bill Ford advising the Board.
  • Coogee SLSC will be holding its End of Season party on Saturday 19 April at the Coogee Diggers Club (formerly Coogee Randwick RSL). The party starts at 7.30pm until very late. Tickets are available from the Coogee SLSC office on Sunday mornings or at the door on night.
  • The container is back from the Aussies. All hands on deck to help unload it asap.
